* A research & development (R&D) manager for pharmaceuticals supervises the work of teams developing new drugs and/or improving existing drugs.
* The R&D manager carefully directs team members in working toward various research goals, as well as compiling data regarding the team’s findings.
* As the manager, this person typically uses this data to issue progress reports to a director or vice president of R&D; these reports help the company accurately forecast when theoretical research or trials may result in practical application in marketable drug therapies.
Much of the work done in R&D for pharmaceuticals involves studying the reactions that various compounds have on organic molecules and structures.
